Alchemizing - An HRCI Summit: Day 3 - Mental Health In The Workplace – Navigating Trauma, Grief, and Bereavement

HR Professionals are accustomed to wearing many hats. We are the team therapists, lobbyists, strategists, policy enforcers and more. Our role requires us to liaison between company leadership and the greater employee population. When employees experience a loss and bereavement leave enters the conversation, we, as HR Professionals, are often left to operate within the confines of the bereavement policy.

This engaging, informative and heartfelt presentation explores the lived experience of April Simpkins, a Chief Human Resources Officer, who in January 2022 experienced the devastating loss of her beloved daughter, Cheslie Kryst. April will share how the company reexamined bereavement leave and is committed to making employee mental health a part of the company’s culture. April will provide actionable steps on reviewing leave policies and how to prioritize employee mental health.
