@donna white I have heard the same thing. I heard if you have scans or picks every 5 seconds (maybe minutes), you get "talked" to. Not sure the truth to that, but it's what I've heard.

Millennials started this trend that Gen Z is following. School is too expensive, med bills are too expensive, and homes are too expensive. If you are accepting the idea that your entire life will be in debt, what difference does it make? Might as well be broke and happy.

Deanna Emery
52:32
Not everyone does that. We have human eyes on each application, and look for transferrable skills.
Jill New
52:42
I wish companies would reduce resume parsing. Candidates that I coach are fed up changing "clients" to "customers" just to make it through parsing.

I'm guessing some candidates don't realize that someone is reviewing their resume. I see so many typos these days.
ROBIN STILLWELL-HARVEY
53:54
we struggle to get managers to put the time and effort into the screening and selection process - they are still in plug & play mode, which leads to high turnover and cost

We can screen in but keeping employees is more challenging than ever.

Lydia Henke
01:00:15
I'm hoping it'll be bookended. I like assessments when they're specific for the role, and validated, but I don't know that it helps hire in this market. It could help with retention of new hires though.

Well-developed, truly job-related/organizationally tied measures are the most predictive means of candidate selection, but also the most technically challenging means to develop...the push-pull of measurement...

Mara Lyons
01:03:52
I think this is a pre-recorded demo

Thank you everyone for joining us today. Following today's presentation we will do a Q&A with Caitlin. Please put your questions for her in the Q&A box.
Alexandra Clermont
01:04:09
Agreed Erica. The SHRM ones tend to be less commercial.
Erica Boss
01:04:18
@Mara It's definitely scripted
cindy herrmann
01:04:30
Also love to ask questions based on what the candidate has to say as well
Alexandra Clermont
01:04:33
Important point @cindy, testing introduces its own biases
Rebecca Kamguia
01:04:36
@Erica - I agree with you. Especially this one.
Claudia Mildner
01:04:39
This is 100% pre-recorded sales pitch. I'm done with HCRI at this point - this keeps happening.
Sharon Crandall
01:04:45
What is a PLUM Profile? What does it look like?
Deanna Emery
01:04:58
I agree, some people just don't test well and others that do may not actually be the best candidate. Happened to a friend of mine quite recently.
Ana Gil
01:05:00
is it me or this is promoting plum as a tool to use?
Kerry Bruner
01:05:04
I expect a portion of it to be sales pitch when it is free. However, if I don't like what they are saying, nothing is lost by turning it off.

Rebecca Kamguia
01:05:28
@susan - Me too.
Stacy Andrieux
01:05:34
This is awful
Alena Rothwell
01:05:39
No, we are more about equality. It's great they were able to hire more monitories based on their assessment skills and not based on their race. That says lot by the number of minorities scored high in those assessments.
Mia Gutridge
01:05:44
@ana Gil it is a promotion for Plum
Shannon Antunez
01:06:05
my first HCRI webinar, and this isn't what I was expecting...

01:06:37
Shannon - they are not all like this. Please join others when you can.
Ana Gil
01:06:38
disappointed thus far
Linda Bonfiglio
01:06:39
This is very disappointing. Total sales pitch
Laura McCool
01:06:40

@Lisa Peterson, this is where I'm at!
Erica Boss
01:07:01
Is there a way to provide feedback after this webinar?
Alexandra Clermont
01:07:20
I hope so
Tamlyn Elbert
01:07:20
Yes
Jenna Louis
01:07:20
There is usually an option for feedback after the webinar ends
Rashell Brevik
01:07:21
Shannon - this is my first webinar that is like this. I am disappointed. It started off well! Hopefully she leaps out of the sales pitch here soon.
Stephanie Lyon
01:07:23
@Erica there's usually a survey asking for feedback after!
Alena Rothwell
01:07:31
I have attended many and they are great. If this one doesn't suit you, then that's fine. Not every presentation will fit everyone. That's why they always provide a variety of speakers.
cindy herrmann
01:07:38
Erica yes at the end a survey usually pops up
Kerry Bruner
01:07:48
Please sign off instead of continuing to complain.
Laura McCool
01:07:49
Thank you, Alena. I agree
Kristy Smith
01:07:51

I think it is great.
Cliff Goodman
01:08:03
Great insights and tool.
Margarita Fiduccia
01:08:04
I agree this is a sales pitch
Cheryl Noga
01:08:07
Candidates hate doing these assessments. I’m far more concerned with the candidate experience.
ROBIN STILLWELL-HARVEY
01:08:10
I don't mind that a sales pitch is included, but it should be disclosed from the start.
Eva Wooldridge
01:08:19
I am inspired.
Angie Chapa-Medrano
01:08:21
this sounds like a recording very scripted:(
Laura McCool
01:08:24
Yes, let's not knock someone down. It's hard to sell. You don't have to buy or listen if you don't want to.
Alexandra Clermont
01:08:25
Agreed Cheryl, this will turn off good candidates
Margarita Fiduccia
01:08:28
agreed about the sales pitch should have been known ahead of time
Mia Gutridge
01:08:29
What are the tools I can use to measure human capital without this sales pitch? Our company is on a tight budget. So I thought I was going to get some tools I can use now without having to make a purchase
Alena Rothwell
01:08:36
Isn't this free??? Why are you all so bothered? You are not made to attend nor did you pay for it. I am use to being on here with a more engage HR professionals.
cindy herrmann
01:08:41
I agree as well you need tp pull out the take away
Clarissa Peterson
01:08:44
Thank you for your observations and candid feedback. Please put your questions in the Q&A so we can continue to learn from each other.
Kathi McDonald
01:08:45

neveda Wayland
01:08:48
I think these types of testing does give you insight on whether or not they are suited for the organization and the job applied.
Rebecca Kamguia
01:08:49
I think companies agree to participate in these webinars with the condition that they will sell their products. I wish HRCI would just disclose that so that we know.
MELISSA OBRIEN
01:09:00
It sounds very holistic for the individual and the employer
Julie Saunders
01:09:06
I've noticed that a lot of “problem-solving” tests that avoid language-based problems fall back on numbers and math-based evaluations. Worth noting that that's also a skillset. Ability to evaluate numbers may not translate to general problem-solving ability, or to the types of problems faced in that job.
Erica Boss
01:09:24
Typically, yes! Sales pitches can be included but it shouldn't be the focus for 90% of the presentation

Queie Barnett
01:09:46
Is there anyone from Plum on the chat that can answer questions?
Rebecca Kamguia
01:09:47
@ Erica - I agree.
ROBIN STILLWELL-HARVEY
01:09:54
While we all need credits, it is more important to me to actually learn than to receive any credit and the chance of my company purchasing plum is slim to none.
Nathan Schultz
01:10:03
When the war for talent is so tight, why would an applicant take the time to complete a quiz if 3 other businesses are calling them with an offer based on a resume?
Erica Boss
01:10:05
@Robin 100%
Tara Wineinger
01:10:12
I suggest all comments are reserved for relevant topic points for us to all learn. Please…? You can provide your feedback to HRCI directl

01:10:15
Absolutely Nathan
Kerry Bruner
01:10:32
Thank you Tara!!
Reda Gudaityte
01:10:43
i'm kind of sick of all those assessments. We've tried so many and all of them look the same, are super costly, and never last.
Jill Rucker
01:10:44
Thank you Tara!
Alena Rothwell
01:10:46
Thank you, Tara!
Alicia Scott-Wears
01:10:53
I've done a similar assessment pre-hire (not sure if it was Plum or not) and I found the assessment fun but it was LONG...
Laura McCool
01:10:55
Folks, would you raise your hand or start talking over the speaker if this was in person? Or would you just walk out if it wasn't for you?
Annette Alvarado
01:11:00
Can we get pointers without having to purchase a new software?
Jayne Sullivan
01:11:04
agree.so much competition in hiring
Keith Stoltz
01:11:09
If you decide to use an assessment as part of your hiring process, you also have to think about the current tight labor market, and the candidate experience. We have lost candidates in the middle of the process because many hate the assessment experience and the time it takes to complete.
Brittne Sheean
01:11:18
@nathan, because people aren’t calling them
Ntokozo Mngadi
01:11:24
This is insightful 👏
Tara Wineinger
01:11:25
Thanks @Keith
Cheryl Noga
01:11:28
I wish all companies would get rid of assessments and one way video interviewing. To me, both are equally horrific for the candidate experience.
Stephanie Lyon
01:11:46
This is a fascinating concept that would be super helpful if there was widespread adoption. One assessment that someone can complete and share with multiple employers?!? That would solve my main issue with assessments, which is time to complete.
Alexandra Clermont
01:11:51
Oh I haven't encountered one way video interviewing that sounds unenrving
Melinda VanVlymen
01:12:01
This is interesting, however we are a small company. I think we already engage applicants in many ways that maximize their abilities and their strengths. Lot's of open ended questions and we always look at everyone and give interviews to people that may not have experience, however can be mentored and encouraged.
Shannon Antunez
01:12:03
@cherylnoga - what feedback have you gotten re: one-way video interviews?
Kerry Bruner
01:12:10
I've done a few one-way videos and I don't do well.
Queie Barnett
01:12:21
agreed on the one way interviewing however that in itself is an indicator of the culture of the organization.
Alicia Scott-Wears
01:12:22
I think that when these types of assessments are used that the output is shared with the individual to better know themselves and where they excel
Brittne Sheean
01:12:26
I haaaate one way video interviews. . .lol as a candidate.
Lee Coleman
01:12:29

01:12:30
I find that giving assessment links at the same time I schedule the interview most effective.
Lotus Williams
01:12:44
To assessment on behavior/personality is very subjective; is it not?
Tara Wineinger
01:12:50
@Alexandra. It is awful. You have to answer a set of questions to a screen as your interview. Absolutely no interaction or connection with the company then you hear about results later…often email if passing on you
Kristina Russell
01:12:53
So would this only work for super entry level roles? I also don't understand how you get applications and EEO data if you use this
Bobby Krejci
01:13:00
One way video interviews were so impersonal.
Lily Weeden
01:13:06
So the candidate doesn't have to provide a resume but has to take an assessment?
Cheryl Noga
01:13:23
One way video interviews don’t allow the candidate to ask questions. It’s them answering questions via video that are on the screen for them. Big companies do it to reduce the time their recruiters have to speak with people. Target uses it - my son tried to apply there and it was awful.
Michelle Carter
01:13:30
I think so! @ Lily
Shannon Antunez
01:13:35
thanks for sharing
Lisa Ely
01:13:38
Do not like metrics predicting what people can and can not do
Kerry Bruner
01:13:47
All of these take the human out of human resources. I'm a boomer, but I still prefer talking face to face
neveda Wayland
01:13:50
We use Kolbe testing at our work. I have found it to be helpful in the employee being successful and happy.
ROBIN STILLWELL-HARVEY
01:13:53
agreed Lisa
Margarita Fiduccia
01:14:10
this is understandable for HUGE companies. Data is data there are always outliers, it has it's place it is not the answer to everything
Lily Weeden
01:14:13
I worked for a company that did these types of assessments after the first interview but this was years ago. I imagine many don't complete it at this point.
cindy herrmann
01:14:23
I agree Lisa assessments don't tell the full story
Donna White
01:14:27
I've always thought assessments should be part of the hiring process but the outcome of them should not be the sole reason to hire/not hire.
Tara Wineinger
01:14:34
I agree with whomever said that perhaps these assessment tools are used for development. I do like how the results are used for onboarding.
Lisa Ely
01:14:38
Keep the data. We are about PEOPLE and KEEPING PEOPLE in the equation of working. Data does not show up to work or work overtime--it's people.
Candace Chavigne
01:14:44
I think we have to be careful about automating everything. This is the perfect opportunity to introduce biases in the process.
Alexandra Clermont
01:15:00

Kerry Bruner
01:15:01
Good point Candace
Kristi Shepard
01:15:04
Agreed Candace
Cheryl Noga
01:15:07
Automation is great for the companies involved but terrible for candidates
Lisa Ely
01:15:10
Agreed Candace
Stacy Williams Jones
01:15:12
have to be careful w/ phone interview. employee who shows up might not be who you hired. video helps eliminate that.
Orighomisan Fregene
01:15:12
While the presentation is enlightening, but because it is obviously a sales pitch, one wonders if the information presented isn't selectively tailored to make the product look its best… and therefore leaving out other important information that do not necessarily support plum
Brea Allen-Martin
01:15:18
Agreed Candace
Candace Chavigne
01:15:25
Machine learning is only as good as the inputs so if the same type of person (male, for example) regularly is seen as a "fit" by the system, you have unintentionally reinforced gender bias in your organization.
Tracey Pirozzi
01:15:30
I use an assessment for existing employees that focuses on work-preferences, which helps employees to understand their own preferences vs. the preferences of others. It is super effective for putting people into their preferred roles and to understand their motivation and increases engagement. It's amazing!
Alexandra Clermont
01:15:35
@Cheryl it's faster for companies but can still cost them good talent in the long run
Candace Chavigne
01:15:36
I would be cautious implementing this.
Brion Stanford
01:15:40
Everyone seems to want to be a leader these days...not possible!
Julie Saunders
01:15:45
Yes, when an application process is overly automated, it communicates to me as a candidate that this company cares more about output and deliverables than it does about the humans who work there.
Orighomisan Fregene
01:15:45
Wow! Thanks @Stacy for the insight
Cheryl Noga
01:15:54
100% agree Alexandra
Tara Wineinger
01:15:55

neveda Wayland
01:16:01

Laura McCool

This seems like an advertisement for Plum and the presenter is reading her notes. Can we just get a discussion about the topic?
Tara Wineinger
01:16:36
Anyone know how ‘easy’ or ‘difficult’ it is to set up these assessment programs?
cindy herrmann
01:16:37
Unfortunately many companies promote people based on being a subject matter expert rather than ability to lead or manage . these soft skills need to be aquired
Owen Obinwanne
01:16:47
can we have access to the slides?
Shannon Antunez
01:16:50

Alexandra Clermont
01:16:51
This would be a much better presentation with a discussion panel, agreed. Maybe towards the end?
Jennifer Buckingham
01:17:01
How many speakers will be joining us today? We are already 1/2 way through this session and it's all a sales pitch :(
Shannon Antunez
01:17:02
soft skills and being able to manage are vital
cindy herrmann
01:17:02
companies need to invest in the people they promote
Kristi Shepard
01:17:02
Some of the stats given, certainly makes me pause and think about how my organization recruits, hires, grow and develop talent.

01:17:10
@Tara - To do it well, usually difficult.
Tara Wineinger
01:17:43
Thanks @Candace…what I figured. Just like competencies
Beth Osborne
01:17:46
This is not helpful at all and does not correspond with the topic. This is a sales add for PLUM. Good grief. How can this be for CPE credits when it is a sales promotion for PLUM
Joe Carson
01:17:49
Thank you everyone for joining us. We will have a Q&A with Caitlin following this presentation. Please put your questions in the Q&A box.
Robin Campbell
01:17:53
@Alexandra - agree. The information does lend itself to a Q&A panel at the end of this presentation
Alexandra Clermont
01:18:02
Not just soft skills but management training. Metrics can tell you the potential for good managers but you can't just plop them in a new position and wish them luck, which happens all too often with management promotions
Lisa Ely
01:18:16
I used to use the Predicative Index Testing for placing the right employee in the right role for their ultimate success. The science was amazing. Even shows how high energy people will fail in a position that does not support their energies.
Mary Fontenot
01:18:20
@neveda Same I recertify end of this month and need credits. COVID wiped out a lot of CE opportunities
Laura Carpenter
01:18:24
I feel duped. This feels like a sales pitch for Plum. While it may be a good product, this isn't what I thought I signed up for. Disappointed 😞

01:19:52
I loved PI as you ca not manipulate it. The success is even placing people who are not as driven with a passionate driven leader
Laura Carpenter
01:19:52
@Stacydobscha - it isn't about credits. It is about content.

01:20:23
I would argue that the biggest "missing link" for those promoted into management roles who are new to this work isn't the knowledge they do or don't have; it's their ability to communicate and maintain that balance in a team of being the leader but also being able to take useful input from their team and directing that information. Soft skills in management roles are hugely underrated in my experience.

If candidates want to get my attention, show a work history that highlights their ability and commitment to go through full work cycles, to go through the mud. More often than not, I get dozens of job hoppers applying, but in today's market, I'm having to make internal concessions towards the short-term candidate than someone that has true growth potential.
